NOTICE OF TOWN MEETING

                NOTICE is hereby given that a Town Meeting of the electors and citizens qualified to vote in Town Meetings of the Town of Monroe will be held at the Monroe Town Hall, 7 Fan Hill Rd, Monroe, CT on June 22, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. (pending Board of Finance approval on 6/18/2026) for the following purpose:

 

To consider, discuss and vote upon the following resolutions regarding the appropriation and authorization of the following bond authorizations:

 

Item 1.  RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING: (I) THE ACQUISITION OF REAL ESTATE COMMONLY KNOWN AS “BENEDICT’S FARM” FOR TOWN PURPOSES IN THE SUM OF $2,740,000 AND THE FUTURE MANAGEMENT THEREOF; (II) AN APPROPRIATION IN THE SUM OF $2,740,000 FOR THE ACQUISITION OF SAID REAL ESTATE; (III) THE ISSUANCE OF THE TOWN’S GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $850,000.00 TO FINANCE A PORTION OF THE APPROPRIATION; AND, (IV) THE APPLICATION OF GRANT FUNDS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO FINANCE THE BALANCE OF THE APPROPRIATION.

 

Item 2. RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN APPROPRIATION OF $2,030,000 FOR THE FY2026 ROAD CONSTRUCTION/RECONSTRUCTION AND TODD DRIVE CULVERT REPLACEMENT PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF THE TOWN’S GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $2,030,000 TO FINANCE THE APPROPRIATION.

 

Item 3.  RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN APPROPRIATION OF $165,000 FOR THE FY2026 FIRE DEPARTMENT IMPROVEMENTS AND VEHICLE PURCHASE PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF THE TOWN’S GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $165,000 TO FINANCE THE APPROPRIATION.

    BUDGET REFERENDUM

    TUESDAY, MAY 5, 2026

     

    NOTICE is hereby given to all electors of the Town of Monroe and any U.S. Citizen of the age of 18 years or more who jointly or severally is liable to the Town for taxes assessed against him or her on an assessment of not less than One Thousand ($1,000) Dollars on the last completed Grand List of such Town, that a BUDGET REFERENDUM will be held on TUESDAY, MAY 5, 2026, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. for the purpose of voting on the Annual Town of Monroe Budget for Fiscal Year July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.  Voting will take place ONLY at the following location:    

     

    COMMUNITY CENTER SITE (formerly ST. JUDE SCHOOL)

    709 MONROE TURNPIKE, MONROE, CT

     

    Persons who are not registered voters, who will be voting as property owners on the Grand List, may vote at Monroe Town Hall between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.  

    The question will be “Shall the Annual Town of Monroe Budget consisting of the Revenue Budget and Expenditure Budget of $113,643,817 for Fiscal Year July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, inclusive, be approved?”

    A vote of YES will be counted as a vote of approval and a vote of NO will be counted as a vote of disapproval.

    Absentee ballots will be available for those that qualify at the Office of the Town Clerk and will be centrally counted at Monroe Town Hall during the hours of voting.

    This Referendum is being held pursuant to the provisions of Chapter VIII, Sec. 6 of the Monroe Town Charter.
